Notable in the warm sunshine of a Ewell evening were the tentative, but very welcome, returns to competition, after 18 months out,of Victor Nwagbara & Craig Price - both came through unscathed but aware of what lies ahead! It was also the return of the prodigal son(Humphrey Waddington to you non-biblical wallas) as TM.None too soon either, given the Men's league standings after the first 2 matches and the failure of the stand-in TM,though even H's input was unable to dislodge St Marys from top spot, either in the match or the league.
The women fared slightly better, though with only 4 athletes;they were usurped by St Marys on the night but still lead.
A couple of wins each for Chyna Vincent(TJ/PV) & Mary Iheke(100/200),with a brace of 2nds from Camilla Thrush - and a fleeting non-scoring visit from Roseanne Mackay - was the sum total for the Women. At the halfway stage,we lead with 14/98 from SMR 11.5/68 & E&E 9.5/52.
Humphrey's wins over 400/TJ and similar success for Chris Hall(100),Richard Holt(110H) & Pat Logan(200),plus the 4 x 200 was not quite enough(46pts to 48) to head St Marys on the night. Ron Taylor again took most of the MD burden and James Moffat(DT) continued to show promise, whilst Victor's non-scoring 11.7/23.8 double and Craig Price's achieved sub 2.15.0 target set a level from which they can advance through the summer. It was also good to see M40 Rob Lowe improving with every competition, with participation in the World Deaf Games on his horizon.Overall,SMR lead with 15/147 from K&P 10/121 & E&E 9/88.
